So many of the “Greatest Generation” have become the “forgotten generation.” Jamie Lee Foundation provides assistance to the elderly struggling with basic day-to-day necessities.
Each day many seniors are faced with choosing what to pay toward their many living expenses (i.e. health care, medicine, housing, food, utilities, gas, insurance, repairs, etc.). Unfortunately these expenses tend to mount higher and higher with each passing year, while they remain on a fixed income.
While there are many government programs to help with these expenses, there are too many who are still left choosing between utilities or food. This requirement to choose between necessities creates a debt spiral that often overcomes young and middle aged families. For those aging and suffering diminishing coping capabilities this spiral can be crushing–financially, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
While many have families who can help, others are left without family support. It can’t be denied that the number of Boomers who are aging alone is growing. Experts on geriatrics call them “elder orphans”- baby boomers without adult children, spouse, relatives or other support groups to rely on for assistance, company and help during senior years.
Jamie Lee Foundation has targeted these “elder orphans” and other seniors, who for whatever reason, are left without sufficient family support.
