Surreal Cityscapes

While nature and the city have historically been opposing concepts, attitudes today are different: we now actively seek new ways to reconcile and combine the two in harmonious coexistence.

Being in nature, or even viewing scenes of nature, reduces anger, fear, and stress and increases pleasant feelings. Exposure to nature not only makes you feel better emotionally, but it also contributes to your physical wellbeing, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones.

But we still need cities. Cities are the engines of the economy, accounting for more than 80 percent of our global GDP—yet they cover only about 3 percent of Earth’s surface. Getting lots of people to live close together makes creative and efficient use of our energy, our water, our sewer systems, and our land.

Philosophically, Surrel Cityscape art focuses on the need and power of establishing harmony between cities and nature by creating a nuanced sense of man’s need to value and effectively integrate with nature. Emotionally, it inspires, amazes, and amuses through striking photography mixed with the creative blending of nature.
